What's an Amphibian?
|
|
Frogs,
toads, salamanders and newts are amphibians. Amphibians have a moist
skin without scales. They have glands in their skin that
produce mucus and other secretions to help keep their skin
moist.
The term ‘amphibian’ comes from ‘amphi’ meaning
double and ‘bio’ meaning life. |

|
|
| The double life of an amphibian is the difference
between their form as a young animal and their adult form.
Amphibian young usually have gills, like fish, to help them
breathe under water. Frogs are the only native amphibians
found in Australia. Frogs, toads, salamanders and newts areall
found in Oregon. |
